Researching Virtual Worlds, Routledge 2014

Hi all,

Thanks to all of you who have shared our interest in the study of virtual worlds in following our work and research. I hope we will meet at future conferences and seminars thus to follow up on our mutual research interest.

The research anthology “Researching Virtual Worlds – Methodologies for Studying Emergent Practices,” Routledge 2014 (eds. Ursula Plesner and Louise Philips) has now been published and it completes the Virtual Worlds Sense-making and Innovation research project located at Roskilde University in Denmark and with that also this blog.

In running this project, it has been a pleasure for me to work with my colleagues and partners in Denmark and from abroad. My work and research now continues in the research lab: Experience Lab (ExLab RUC). This lab is an offshoot of the VW project. It brings together researchers from the subject areas of performance design, computer science and communication studies.

In ExLab RUC we address issues of how to design for multi sensory and cross-boardering virtual and physical environments and how to visualize heterogeneous and large amounts of data from social media.

Thanks for now, Sisse Siggaard Jensen alias Chenet Shan ;-)

Ates Gürsimsek’s PhD defense, Friday the 9th of November 13.00-16.00

Hi all, video
It is good news for the Virtual Worlds Research Project in Denmark that Ates Gürsimsek will defend his PhD dissertation at Roskilde University Friday the 9th of November, 2012.

The title of his dissertation is: “Multimodal Semiotics and Collaborative Design – a social semiotic approach to the co-production of virtual places and artifacts in Second Life.”

The dissertation is an in-depth study of collaborative design processes in three case studies: The Metrotopia Research Island, a 3-week student workshop and the Pop Art Lab case. Theoretically, among others, the case analyses of the dissertation draw on social semiotics and design theory.

Send us an email (Ates[at]ruc.dk or sisse[at]ruc.dk) if you wish to get a copy of the dissertation

Hope you’ll attend the defense and in case you can not come “in person” we will stream it.

Sisse ;-)
