Cast your vote for best Metrotopia Machinima…

August 2009 the Virtual Worlds Research Project launched the Metrotopia Machinima Contest. We have received 14 contest entries that can be viewed on this blog, on our YouTube channel inWorld Innovations, and inworld at Metrotopia. Check out the films and vote for your winner of the audience award in the sidebar. Voting runs from through December 9th, 2009. Winners of the 1st prize audience award (25,000 Linden dollars) and 1st prize jury award (50,000 Linden dollars) will be announced on the blog December 11, 2009. All the films are shot on our research island, Metrotopia, as this was a requirement for contest entry. The contest was conceived of as a way of attracting attention to our research island and as a way of kicking off a new subproject on machinima production. Research workshop: Making Sense of Virtual Worlds and User Driven Innovation

The research team of the Virtual Worlds Research project at Roskilde University is excited to announce a 3-day cross disciplinary research workshop entitled ‘Making Sense of Virtual Worlds and User Driven Innovation”, June 7th-9th 2010 in Denmark. We aim to bring together researchers with high-end expertise in research on virtual worlds to share distinctive theoretical and empirical analyses of virtual worlds as spaces for sense-making and as sites for user-driven innovation. We will pay special attention to creating a program and atmosphere that promotes joint explorations, interactions and exchange of ideas among invited participants. Continued…

Project meeting on Wednesday  and Thursday,  January 13-14, 2010.

Professor Jeffrey Schnapp, Berkman Center for Internet and Society, Harvard University, and Associate Director Henrik Bennetsen, Stanford Humanities Lab, Stanford University will visit our project to discuss with us their many projects and our project as well.

On Wednesday January 13, Associate Professor Robin Teigland, Center for Strategy and Competitiveness, Stockholm School of Economics will also join us.

Virtual Innovation

This is the English summary from Innovation Lab’s work report 2009:
To assist clients with Second Life projects Innovation Lab builds on knowledge from the user-driven innovation methodology and overall approach and framework. Early on, Innovation Lab had Lab Agents explore virtual worlds, providing a natural stepping stone to instantiate research, networking activity (national and international) and build the ‘House of Horizons’in Second Life before launching a phase two of client activities. The research phase comprised of desk research, communication with researchers, actively blogging about the topic, participating in a cross industry study of metaverse scenarios and attending national and international conferences. Machinima Workshop

We are glad to announce an open workshop, November 26th 2009, on Virtual worlds and Machinima! We invite you to join our exploration of this new media, film and art form. Speakers include:

PLAY FOR FREE is the title of this year’s MEDIA Desk/DADIU seminar. This one day event joins experts in the field of free-to-play from Canada, USA, Sweden, Germany and Denmark. About the organisers: MEDIA Desk Denmark is a joint venture between the MEDIA programme of the European Union and the Danish Film Institute. MEDIA Desk Denmark informs and consults Danish Film, TV and Games professionals on EU audiovisual policy and how to obtain EU funding for projects. The National Academy of Digital, Interactive Entertainment (DADIU) is the Danish computer games education specialization for students being trained in the field of computer games at various art schools and universities in all of Denmark.
